Is tooth whitening effective for all staining?
Tooth whitening procedures are very effective for surface stains on the teeth; however, it may be less effective for teeth that have deep internal discoloration from tetracycline use, or developmental defects.
For deeply or severely stained teeth, however, we offer non-whitening options such as porcelain veneers and dental bonding procedures.
How does tooth whitening work?
Professional tooth whitening systems such as BriteSmile work by whitening the tooth enamel with a safe, prescription strength gel that is activated by a specially calibrated light. This procedure allows us to whiten and brighten the smile several shades in a single visit.
What are my options for whitening?
We offer the BriteSmile professional tooth whitening system and take home custom trays for tooth whitening, and a variety of cosmetic options such as porcelain veneers and dental bonding procedures for deep and bleach-resistant staining.
Will my teeth be sensitive afterwards?
Some patients experience some tooth sensitivity following their whitening procedures. This usually resolves within a few days. However, we have found that patients experience very little or no sensitivity after undergoing the BriteSmile whitening treatment.
How long will the effects last?
Your teeth will always be whiter than they were before your whitening. However, your tooth color may begin to relapse again with time and from use. We find that most of our patients maintain their preferred whitening results for several years, depending on their personal habits and preferences.
Can I repeat the process if my teeth become stained again?
Yes. The tooth whitening procedures we use are safe enough to be repeated when necessary to maintain optimum whitening.
