Are Dental Implants Painful?

Serving Patients from Boston, Braintree, Weymouth, Quincy & Nearby Areas of Massachusetts

Implant dentistry requires a surgical procedure in which the implants are placed directly into your jawbone. This can seem frightening to some of our Braintree-area patients, but there is no reason to be worried. Using local anesthesia before placing dental implants, we can ensure your complete comfort at all times.

Following the placement of your implants, you may experience some minor discomfort, swelling or bruising. These sensations are temporary and can easily be dealt with by taking pain medication and using ice packs in the first few days following their placement. This will be discussed with you during your initial implant dentistry consultation.

Long-Term Comfort

Dental implants act as substitute roots, but to do this they must first be accepted into your jaw through a process known as osseointegration. This process is painless, but can take up to six months to complete.

Afterward, your implant will act as a permanent foundation for your dental restoration.  Once we’ve placed a dental crown or dentures on top of your implants, the end results will be complete comfort, restored function, and flawless aesthetics.

Our implant dentists understand that some people are more anxious about oral surgery than others. We will be happy to answer all of your questions and discuss your options during your initial consultation.
